Oh, you like X… Name every X – is a meme parodying lovers of musical elitism and specifically the words “Name three albums”.
Origin of Oh you like X meme
At the end of October, a new joke on the template began to spread on Twitter. People write phrases as follows:
Oh you like X? Name every X.
Oh, you are X? Name every X.
Presumably, it all started with the tweet of actress Alexis J. Zull. On October 21, 2019, she published this entry:
Her tweet became viral and gained more than 200 thousand likes in a couple of days. In replies, even Lady Gaga was noted.
The next day, the user @gothicmane picked up the format and began to make jokes on this template. The most popular about the love to history scored almost 450 thousand likes.
In the end, a full-fledged meme has formed. Do you like reading? Name every book.
But this is not a completely new format. Back in 2017, the user daviddeweil came up with this joke:
The second part of the tweet is a reference to the famous phrase Name three albums, with which it is customary to ridicule musical elitism. Often people turn to fans of a particular group with a request to name three of its albums. This supposedly should perplex those who are not really a true admirer, but simply follow fashion.
In the replies to that tweet there were wits who nevertheless named three albums of their mother.
Meaning of Oh You Like meme
The “Name every” meme makes fun of snobs who want to name some facts about what you love. In their opinion, you can’t love the Beatles if you don’t know at least three of their albums.
