Cerveza Cristal beer – a series of memes about a beer that was advertised in the Chilean version of the Star Wars movie. Episodes with such integration were first circulated on Twitter (X), and then turned into a meme.
Cerveza Cristal beer meme origin
On February 23, 2024, Twitter user (X) @DESCONOCIDOHK shared a clip from the original Star Wars trilogy. This was a TV version that was shown in Chile in 2004. In the scene, Palpatine is talking to Luke Skywalker, and then a can of beer suddenly appears in his hand.
It turned out that local TV crews simply replaced some items in the scenes to advertise the beer.
On March 3, user @heyitswindy published another scene with a beer advertisement, but with English dubbing. In this scene, Obi-Wan Kenobi shows Luke his father’s sword, but instead of a sword in the box there are several bottles of Cerveza Cristal.
Around 2003 in Chile, when the original trilogy of Star Wars began airing on television there, they did this funny thing to avoid cutting to commercial breaks. They stitched the commercials into the films themselves. Here is one of them, with the English dub added in. pic.twitter.com/wC7N2vPNvv

This tweet started the trend. In three days, the post received more than 36 million views. Users shared their discovery and discussed it. And soon memes began to appear.
The trend reached its peak of popularity on March 5th. In memes, people insert Cerveza Cristal into a variety of scenes from other films. For example, in “Pulp Fiction” or “The Lord of the Rings”.
Meaning
The meme about the Chilean beer Cerveza Cristal plays on an unusual advertisement that many learned about only 20 years later. Users create photoshopped photos of movie stills in which characters from different franchises interact with meme beer.
